And now, if you will direct your gaze to exhibit 23-b you will find the curious Pickled Heads of the Pike Brothers.  Last seen steaming up the VanTiki river on the ill-fated Pike expedition of 1892, Messrs. Pike & Pike have been transformed into drinking vessels by the natives of VanTiki island via an ancient pickling process.

What is a Pickled Head?

Pickled Heads are only found deep in the jungles of VanTiki Island.  They are painstakingly aged by the VanTiki natives within great palm-trunk barrels in a secret mixture of vital fluids and rare herbs.   Often confused with “Shrunken Heads”, Pickled heads involve less shrinking/stitching and more sitting around in a vat till you end up with a spiffy vessel that not only holds your Mai Tai but reminds you of that foe you vanquished at the last tribal battle.  Yum yum!

This is a set of 2 unique “Pickled Head” Tiki Mugs by VanTiki.  The elder Pike Brother is 3 and 3/4 inches high and weighs 1 pound 9.7 ounces while the younger stands 3 and 1/4 inches tall and weighs 1 pound 2 ounces.  They are entirely hand-crafted out of glazed high-fire ceramics. This is a set of one-of-a-kind sculptures, never to be repeated. Signed and dated by the artist.

The freshly pickled Pike Brothers talk story with their mentor Mr. Bali Hai.
