AbOuT The Mugs

Born and raised in Hawaii, Henrik Van Ryzin  began his artistic career making rubber movie monsters in Hollywood.  The call of the islands proved too strong though, and after a brief stint hunting Obake in Japan he returned to Oahu in 2000.  When not sculpting VanTiki mugs, Henrik happily toils away at his “day job” doing illustration and animation with Ms. VanTiki.

Henrik also loves GeoCaching.  You can see the TikiCoins, his signature GeoCoins, here.

Each VanTiki mug is a one-of-a-kind sculpture entirely crafted by hand. No molds are used to create VanTiki mugs, which allows detail and forms that would be impossible with traditional slip casting.

The mugs are hand-built in a high-fire stoneware with porcelain details and coated with food-safe glazes.  While the mugs are technically dishwasher safe, Henrik strongly recommends a gentle hand washing to get every nook and cranny clean after use.  The mugs odd shapes make sipping a challenge - a straw is a must!
